Southlight Gallery

All staff positions are served by a volunteer team effort.  We request 2 – 4 interns each semester. All Interns are required to attend  a minimum of two 6 hour scheduled weekly shifts.  They will be responsible for showing the gallery to visitors, acting as agent between artists and patrons, and participating as a team in the wide variety of tasks needed to prepare for our ongoing exhibitions, monthly openings, and other special events. While we make every effort to support individual areas of study, all staff members are asked to participate in the following tasks.

1.  Administration –

  • Maintain daily task log
  • Daily email correspondence
  • General:  Record keeping, organization of files, forms and promotional materials
  • Use of following Computer Skills to generate, organize and share files:
  • Photoshop (see design section below)
  • Microsoft Office/Word
  • Google:  Gmail maintenance, Google docs, Web marketing and social media,
  • Yousendit, wetransfer,

2.   Marketing / Advertising / Public Relations:

  • Assist Director in Design and production of monthly –

Photoshop (experience preferred)

    • Monthly event flyers, posters and evites
    • Monthly/quarterly advertisements
    • Support graphics to assist marketing
    • Support graphics to assist featured artists and guests
    • Occasional banners, special event projects
    • psd files – working file with layers
    • pdf/jpg – out put files for final design
    • bridge-image out put from folders, multiple files to pdf contact sheet
    • Create/update forms, labels and templates
  • Assist Marketing Director and graphics teams in improving Southlight’s market outreach
    • Compile and distribute Newsletters, and special E-Blasts via Mail Chimp
    • Monthly media press releases and announcements
    • Compile and distribute monthly evites
    • Social Networking (i.e. Facebook)
    • Contact Development
    • Venue promotions / Development

2.  Curatorial:

  • Assist Director, Artist Members and Guests in coordinating ongoing exhibitions.
  • Ongoing Installation – Art, Lighting, wall maintenance
  • Label works
  • Maintain inventory and storage of works
  • Street window display, design and maintenance
  • Serve as Artist representative
  • Gallery Tours, Gallery Sales

4. Event support.

  • All staff serves as event representatives during all ArtWalk/Openings and Special Events
  • Event preparations – facility inventory and maintenance
  • Member support
  • Coordinate entertainment
  • Distribute event flyers
  • Staff desk and bar during events
  • Gallery Sales (when member is not present
