Special Events Internship Opportunity- North Florida Chapter

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, a leading non-profit health care organization, is seeking enthusiastic students and individuals for its internship program. Internships are offered for the fall, spring and summer program and typically require a 15 hour/week investment by the student  during the semester. The intern must be motivated by working in a fund-raising environment and as part of a team.

The intern will receive hands on experience in the basics of fund-raising; how to develop and implement special events; how to create successful sponsorship  packages;  and how to develop effective collateral materials. The intern will learn how to market each event to potential corporate sponsors and participants  and  gain an  understanding  of how advertising/marketing contributes to the success of a fundraising event. Hands on experience with volunteer recruitment and management as well as relationship-building with CF families is also involved in the internship.


  • Candidate must be a college student in any related discipline:
    • Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Business, or Social Services Though, this is not an inclusive list.
  • Candidate must have an interest to work in a non-profit environment
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Must be outgoing and detailed oriented
  • A valid driver’s license and car- preferable but not mandatory
  • Willingness to work some evenings and weekends at events
  • Students doing internship for credit and non-credit are encouraged to

Reimbursement for business expenses incurred during internship (mileage, etc.) provided.

Title:  Intern: Event Assistant & Special Project Coordinator

This position is responsible for the implementation and coordination of specific special events, fund raising activities and other chapter programs and activities as determined by the executive director.  The objective is to learn the basic fund raising principles of special events including, but not limited to:

  • Preparation of sponsorship proposals
  • Development of leads for new sponsor recruitment
  • Development of vendor request letters and thank you letters
  • Obtaining competitive bids for printing, event prizes, event promotional items, “Attending committee meetings for assigned events
  • Follow up phone calls
  • Organizing auctions including procurement of items, assembling auction packages, creating auction displays, developing pricing,
  • Contract negotiations

The individual is required to work independently with event directors and appropriate staff as necessary.  The individual must be outgoing and maintain strong interpersonal and management skills.

A Development Director and/or the Executive Director directly supervises the position.


Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with designated staff member on all facets of assigned events including: Coordinate logistics of season’s special events
  • Increase procurement of auction items to add to the success of auctions
  • Seek underwriting support via business proposal and personal contact
  • Recruit and oversee volunteer committees responsible for the implementation of assigned special events
  • Train volunteers for specific events and/or tasks within an event or project “Facilitate the development and production of event materials as needed
  • Present event plans to organizations, committees and businesses to obtain their involvement in events
  • Random duties as assigned
  • Will be required to pick up auction items and prizes upon request of the assigned director
