Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens
The Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens invites applicants for a special events and public relations internship in the Zoo’s busy marketing department.
The marketing and public relations department handles all media requests for the Zoo and Gardens, as well as special events which enhance the guest experience.
Interns will assist the Special Event and Public Relations Supervisor with the following:
- Helping plan, implement all the Zoo and Gardens special events to include event set up, tear-down, etc.
- Coordinating need for Volunteers as well as instructing them on specific duties associated with the special event
- Gathering information pertaining to news stories
- Assisting with writing press releases and updating various social media,
- Assisting with organizing with media events/representatives.
- Conducting research
- Attending and participating in staff meetings
- Other administrative duties as needed
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES
- Major in public relations, journalism, communication, marketing, or related field
- Excellent writing skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Willingness to take initiative and motivation to seek new learning opportunities
- Keen attention to detail when proofreading, copyediting, and fact-checking
- Flexibility and a good sense of humor
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Desktop publishing, HTML, and related computer skills
- Good research ability and command of the Internet
- Public relations experience or abilities
- Professionalism
STIPEND
This is an internship for credit only
TERM OF APPOINTMENT
Days and times are flexible but a minimum of 15 to 20 hours per week are required along with ability to work all special events that typically occur at night or on weekends/holidays.
