Social Media/Creative Writing

JaxParks Community Relations Office manages projects that provide exposure to social media campaign strategy development and execution; goal setting and analysis of analytics; and development of digital content.

Candidate  requirements:

  • Able to multi-task and travel to various sites within Duval County.
    • Familiar with writing and grammar styles including AP style
    • Familiar with standard social media sites (i.e., Facebook, Twitter, blog sites)

Assigned projects each semester are based on student ability. Samples of projects include:

  • Develop and/or maintain a JaxParks intern blog site that is published through Tumblr and linked to jaxparks.com  website.
    • Work with management to host a social media town hall and/or google hangout.
    • Complete comparative analysis of the use of social media outlets in public community centers
      • Participate in or develop a campaign to promote a specific program or event for JaxParks. Examples include Waterproof Jacksonville water safety and learn-to-swim campaign, Get Healthy Jacksonville, Nature Notes environmental education series.
      • Write and edit copy for newsletters, website and social media

Internship includes strong emphasis on social media’s use·of images and group advocacy projects. Candidates must have strong writing, verbal and interpersonal communication skills and must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.  Applicants should be highly organized and self-motivated.

This is an unpaid internship; however, credit is available through an accredited university/college.

Samples of completed projects:

Interns have produced copy for social media sites and print publications including several lead stories for JaxParks’ quarterly newsletter. A recent intern developed Park Life- a blog by and about interns working with JaxParks and a major social media campaign comprised of a combination of video pieces, contests and calls to action.
