Office of the Children Ombudsperson

In 2010, the city of Jacksonville was awarded a Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Cooperative Agreement to improve children’s mental health services through the Jacksonville System of Care Initiative (SOCI) in Duval County. The Office of the Children’s Ombudsperson fulfills the youth-guided value of the SOCI, by promoting non-discrimination, best interests, right to participate, be heard, and thrive of all children, youth and emerging adults.

Responsibilities:

  • Update and maintain OCO’s social media presence, including monitoring, posting, scheduling and reporting Facebook and Twitter updates
  • Assist in planning, writing and managing e-blasts, lead/opinion letters, promotional materials, even calenders, and e-newsletters
  • Draft, distribute and pitch news releases, media alerts and other stories
  • Design flyers, graphics and other marketing material
  • Provide feedback on and update the organization’s website regularly
  • Collaborate with staff on new ideas, directions, and tools for marketing and communications
  • Prepare weekly reports and maintain regular contact with supervisor
  • Where possible, join Children’s Ombudsperson for meetings, conferences and events
  • Help develop and expand current marketing, journalistic/editorial, youth engagement and community outreach efforts of the OCO
