State Attorney’s Office, Fourth Judicial Circuit, Florida

Since taking office in January 2017, State Attorney Melissa Nelson has sought to develop and implement a transparent and effective communication strategy. The office website,, was completely redesigned.

The proposed internship would permit a student to become involved in the day-to-day operations of the State Attorney’s Office Communication Department. The intern would be responsible for assisting in creating social media content. The intern would engage social followers to help increase the level of interaction and engagement between the office and the public, and members of the press that follow the official State Attorney’s Office social media channels. Some of the essential tasks of the intern would be to aid the Communications Director to:

  • Receive public records requests or general requests for information from members of the media and coordinate fulfilling those requests promptly and professionally.
  • Coordinate on-camera interviews with SAO staff.
  • Manage the digital assets of the SAO (photos, videos, graphics).
  • Ensure a positive working relationship with members of the media.
  • Monitor press reporting and social media for breaking news, events and report those to management.
  • Develop, produce, and create external marketing materials, photos, and videos.
  • Create briefs for the State Attorney and others when needed for appearances or events.
