Changing Homelessness

The Organization:

In 1974, an informal group of concerned and engaged social service agencies and religious leaders organized to improve coordination of homelessness services and resource sharing. In 2001, the Emergency Services and Homeless Coalition incorporated as a 501(c)(3) organization and received lead agency designation by the State of Florida Office on Homelessness to administer services in support of ending homelessness in Duval, Nassau and Clay counties. Today, our agency is now known as Changing Homelessness. Throughout our 44 years in operation, we have convened and collaborated with numerous partners to reduce homelessness in Northeast Florida’s Continuum of Care.

Position Summary:

The Communications Intern will work with the Community Engagement and Development in team in a variety of ways including administrative support, content creation, communications planning and execution, and event support. The internship will give an insight into the important role communications to convey Changing Homelessness’ mission to end homelessness.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the communicating of Changing Homelessness’ mission through e-mail, newsletters, blogs, social media posts, etc.
  • Create and maintain a communications calendar based on Changing Homelessness and member agency events, news related to the mission, and educational content on homelessness
  • Develop new and creative ways to engage potential donors, volunteers, and community stakeholders through social media
  • Assist in event planning and promotion for August Surge, the second census of the homeless population that is executed each year
  • Help to create content and develop a plan for unveiling a sub brand under Changing Homelessness
