Job Description:
The Jacksonville Humane Society (JHS) seeks a dynamic, self-starter to assist marketing and communications efforts. You will gain experience writing press releases and preparing other documents for the media, JHS website, newsletter and social media. Position will include interaction with media including making calls to reporters to garner interest in JHS stories, and assisting with weekly media appearances. You will help develop public relations campaigns for adoptable animals at our shelter. This internship is an excellent opportunity to experience various aspects of public relations, event planning and development while working for a well-known community based nonprofit organization.

Responsibilities:
- Writing and editing press releases, web content, social media newsletter articles
- Assisting with event marketing and logistics
- Creating and executing PR plans for difficult to adopt animals. Plans will include creating kennel cards, creative descriptions of the animals, social media promotion, filming videos and photography
- Assisting with weekly media appearances at the three major news networks
- Helping to pitch JHS stories to reporters and news outlets
- Assist in managing social media including: website, Facebook and Twitter
- Create a system for tracking and documenting media coverage
- Assisting with data entry, filing and organization
Qualifications and Required Skills and Competencies:
- Students applying for this internship must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and should be majoring in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing or Journalism
- Passion for animals
- Ability to meet deadlines
- A solid understanding of social media and technology
- Excellent grammar and editing skills
- Be reliable and on time
- Ability to work well with others
- Ability to generate, share and carry through creative ideas
