The Community Foundation of Northeast Florida

The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida (www.jaxcf.org), Florida’s oldest and largest community foundation, works to stimulate philanthropy to build a better community. The Foundation helps donors invest their philanthropic gifts wisely, helps nonprofits serve the region effectively, and helps people come together to make the community a better place. Created in 1964, the Foundation has made more than $695 million in grants since its inception, and manages assets that totaled more than $630 million at their peak in 2021.

Internship Description:

The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida seeks a self-starting visual communicator to tell stories of impact about our work to stimulate philanthropy to build a better community. The intern’s role will be to work closely with TCF staff to identify stories, develop key messages and details, film staff speaking about the work, writing scripts and recording voiceovers, and adding in B-roll, graphics, and photos from the field to create short video stories (1-3 minutes) to be shared on The Community Foundation’s social media (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter) and website. The intern will report to the Vice President of Strategic Communications, and collaborate with the digital communications associate. Through this internship, the student will:

  • Strategize on how best to tell stories, learning about the topic, thinking through possible assets, ideas, and key messages
  • Write scripts and record voiceovers
  • Record video using TCF’s equipment: iPhone 14, Rode Wireless Go Microphone, DJI6 Gimbal smartphone stabilizer, tripod with smartphone attachment, lighting kit.
  • Edit video using Adobe Premiere or Adobe Rush into short stories of 1-3 minutes, either in a vertical format for Stories and Reels, or in a horizontal format, for posting on YouTube, website, displaying at events, etc, aiming to produce one video a week.
  • Manage the project from start to end, including creating a production schedule, seeking review and approval on content, and working with our digital communications associate to post the stories on social channels.
  • Occasionally create graphics for social media using Canva.

Requirements

  • Video production skills, including setting up a shot, arranging lighting, filming, and editing in Adobe Premiere or Adobe Rush
  • Photo editing skills
  • Canva
  • Excellent writing skills for scripts and social media

  • Understanding of professionalism, representing The Community Foundation in a positive light, discretion about sensitive information, and a willingness to understand the nuances of issues about which we communicate
  • Ability to work independently, asking questions to gain a clear understanding of tasks, timelines, and review/approval requirements, and then moving the project to the next step. Exercise good judgement about when to seek help/clarification.

Logistics

The intern will work from The Community Foundation’s office at 245 Riverside Ave Suite 310, and may have opportunities to travel to film on location. The intern will need to have their own car. The intern will be provided free parking on the deck of our building, and will have their own cubicle space near me. We will also provide the intern a laptop.
